Science Meets Business

RAR's Dialogue brings together doctoral researchers and a leading expert from the world of business for an informal exchange on current career issues and social developments over lunch.

What does Dialogue offer you?

This annual format offers you the opportunity to discuss current career-relevant topics and trends in business and society with a distinguished personality. You will also gain first-hand insight into the activities, strategies and decision-making processes of well-known companies and institutions.

The informal and rather personal setting of the meetings allows for an intensive discussion. Please bring your questions with you! The participating business representatives are very much interested in an open dialogue and in your individual opinion.

Who can participate?

Dialogue welcomes doctoral researchers of all disciplines of Ruhr-Universität Bochum, TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen. As we would like to provide you with a chance of a personal contact to our guest, we limit the number of participants to 20 persons.

The event is usually conducted in German, but you are welcome to participate with questions in English.

Next date: The next Dialogue will take place on 30 May 2022, 12–14 h at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

Opportunities for shaping politically relevant fields of action

Mon, 30 May 2022, 12:00–14:00, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Veranstaltungszentrum)

How is knowledge transferred to politics? How are scientific findings implemented? In this year's Dialogue with Dr. Dirk Günnewig, State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, you will have the opportunity to gain insights into political and educational fields of work. Discuss questions such as:

  • How do ideas/topics make their way into the ministry?
  • What do the workflows look like?
  • How does the interaction with society work?
  • What do the job opportunities look like for those with doctoral degrees in political and educational science?
  • To what extent is there a need for professional expertise?
  • Which career and development opportunities are there?
